Barsha Shah is a photo journalist working for the online media Deshanchar.
In December 2018, she was on an assignment outside the President’s office. Here a small group of young activists brought a toy car symbolizing the Governments decision on buying of a number of luxurious – bullet proof – cars. The demonstrators tried to draw attention to the fact that Nepal is one of the world’s most poor countries.
Barsha was arrested and humiliated by the police – even if she presented her press card – and she was taken to the local police station. The arrest made an outcry on social media end among journalist organization world vide.
The arrest has not made her afraid, but she has learned to inform her editors on her whereabouts before she leaves the office.
